The Union of Cinematographers and Professional Cinematographic Organizations and Associations of Russia ("Kinosoyuz") published an open letter in support of the accused in the Penza case convicts 

for terms ranging from six to 18 years, and to the cause of "New Greatness."

"The cases of the Network and the New Greatness show that law enforcement agencies themselves have become a real threat to Russian citizens, especially young people," the statement said.

The filmmakers called for a review of the "unfair, incredible in its cruelty" verdict of the defendants in the Penza case and "punish the investigators who used torture."

"We demand the creation of a system of real control over the investigation, which will ensure the right of every citizen to a fair trial, independent of the interests of law enforcement agencies and the political elite," the authors of the letter concluded.

The appeal was signed by directors Vitaly Mansky, Alexey Popogrebsky, Boris Khlebnikov, Valery Todorovsky, Andrey Smirnov, Marina Razbezhkina, Alexey Fedorchenko, Oksana Bychkova, Askold Kurov and others.

Before that, in support of those convicted in the Penza case performed Russian scientists and scientific journalists.
